Common questions
What is Consent Mode v2 and do I actually need it?
Consent Mode v2 is Google's framework for adjusting how its tags behave based on a user's consent choices. If you run Google Ads or GA4 and serve users in the EU/EEA or UK, you need it — without it, Google limits conversion data and you risk non-compliant tracking.
Will I lose all my conversion data if users decline cookies?
No — that's the point of doing it properly. When Consent Mode v2 is configured correctly, Google uses modelled conversions to recover a meaningful portion of declined-consent activity, so your reporting and ad optimisation keep working within the bounds of consent.
Do you work with Cookiebot, or other consent platforms too?
Cookiebot is what I use most often and know deeply, but I also work with other CMPs. The key is wiring whichever platform you use correctly into Consent Mode v2 via GTM — the CMP brand matters less than the integration.
